Our laboratory studies the regulation of gene expression at the single cell level. Our main focus is to use microscopy to determine how individual cells execute and coordinate the different steps along the gene expression pathway, allowing the controlled expression of their genes. We therefore combine single molecule techniques and quantitative analysis methods with genetics and biochemistry to gain better understanding of the general rules governing the expression of genes in complex systems.
